Disadvantages of Wind Energy

To install a wind turbine, it costs $3.5 million, and is expensive to maintain. Based on the price of a wind turbine, it does not generate much heat or electricity.

To create enough electricity or heat to be a useful amount, a large number of wind turbines need to be placed in one area of land. The space a wind turbine takes up alters the environment. So even though it doesn't give off pollution, the environment around it harmed while installing it.

The land a wind farm is located on costs money too. Since the wind turbines need to be placed apart from another, the price of the land can really add up.

Wind turbines also make a sound like a jet engine. So the people that live near them, get disturbed by the noise.

The wind is very unreliable. In some places it is very strong in the summer months, so it can produce a lot of electricity. But in the winter months, there isn't much wind. When there is a lot of wind, a lot of electricity is produced, but when there isn't a lot of wind, not a lot

of electricity is produced. Wind power needs to be combined with another type of energy to produce electricity 100% of the time.

Although unlikely, there can be some disasters. A wind turbine can collapse. That would put the environment around it in danger

Migrating birds are attracted to strong winds. The turbines have a great chance of killing the birds.

T.V. reception can be also easily disturbed by the

wind turbines.
